mslarrabeesnerdybookclub

Hello!!

I just created a wiki-spaces page :) for the same class I created a blogger page for.  I thought creating it was somewhat easy and I really enjoyed it.  After much searching, I decided that wiki-spaces looked the most user-friendly and it was!  I am not exactly tech savvy, but I did manage to upload the picture I used for the book club, yea!  When I created my main page, I was confused why I couldn't see my "wikis," until I realized that it was my home page that I had created.  AHA!  So even though it felt like I was creating the same page twice, I figured it out.
I decided to create a wiki for the book club I ran this summer. I then created a sub-page that was directed to the students at the book club.  I think it looks a little simple, but I will send out the link to my students so they can comment and I will add pictures of their t-shirts next. The book club met twice in August after reading Meridian James and the Ouroboros Dagger by Rebs Kendry.  We were lucky enough to have an author visit from Ms. Kendry at the end of our school year, so students would have a chance to read it before August.  We have already planned another book club for next summer when the second Meridan James book is released!  Here is the link:

Hello, welcome to my FIRST blog!!  These are my top 10 things that every teacher should know about technology, in no particular order:

1.  Be open minded and be willing to learn and try new things.

2.  Have a back up plan.  Hey, you're teachers, you probably already have one!

3.  Use the technology that is available and find out what works for you and your students.

4.  Be prepared to learn with your students, even at the elementary level.

5.  Databases are an invaluable research tool; it shouldn't always be a "Google" search.

6.  Group students together to help each other, not everyone starts in the same place.

7.  Have students share what they already know; whether it's websites, databases or social media.

8.  Ask "like-minded" colleagues to share how they use technology in their classrooms.

9.  Use the technology you have to better understand the technology you could be using.  For example, you can "Google" how to set up a blog for a class you are taking... :)

10.  Keep in good contact with your Librarian and IT department, they are using technology every day and have great suggestions for implementing technology in your classroom.

Feel free to post more ideas and keep this ball rolling!  Thank you.
